Sunlight streamed into the pawn shop, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Amelia hummed, idly flipping through a tray of vintage brooches. The clinking sound was comforting. She’d promised herself a quiet Saturday, and so far, it was proving to be exactly that. Her fingers, cool and relaxed, drifted over the cold metal of the jewelry.

A glint of something caught her eye. Amongst a jumble of costume rings, a small, silver box lay nestled. Curiosity piqued, she reached for it.

The box opened with a soft click. Inside, nestled on a velvet cushion, was a ring. A delicate filigree setting, a single, sparkling diamond. It was…her grandmother's. A wave of serene understanding washed over her.
